Geographys is an independent site for people who like maps: daily puzzles, a 3D globe, and sourced articles on why the world is divided up the way it is.
What's here
- 25 games, most with a new daily puzzle that everyone plays the same day, plus leaderboards, streaks and weekly events.
- The Globe Atlas: a 3D globe of every country and territory, a Country of the Day, a map projections tool and the coastline paradox.
- Learn: 616 free articles on borders, enclaves, disputed places, capitals, renamings, country shapes and flags. Every article lists its sources.
Who makes it
Geographys is built and run by one person (@austinkrance), with puzzle ideas, corrections and map requests from the people who play it. Players who've shaped the site are listed on the contributors page.
Accuracy
Maps, populations, areas and capitals come from published open datasets (Natural Earth, the World Bank, the UN, GeoNames and others), all listed on the credits page. Where borders are disputed we say so rather than pick a side quietly. Spotted a mistake? Tell us and it gets fixed.
How it's paid for
Everything above is free to play and read. Geographys is funded by supporters, who get extra maps and practice modes, and by ads shown to visitors who aren't supporters. See the privacy policy for what that involves.
