The ground rules

Geographys is free to use for your own enjoyment, with or without an account. Play fair, be kind, and don't use the site to harm others or the service itself. Don't try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to it, and don't scrape it in bulk.

Accounts are optional. Give us an accurate email address, keep your password to yourself, and you're responsible for what happens under your account. Usernames and display names show up publicly on leaderboards and to friends, so keep them decent. We may change or remove ones that aren't, and we may suspend or delete accounts that break these terms.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Anyone can play the games anonymously without one. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it.

Scores are meant to reflect real play. Don't submit fabricated scores or use bots, scripts or exploits to climb a leaderboard. We may remove scores or players that look manipulated, and we don't guarantee that any score, streak or ranking will be kept forever.

The maps, country lists, names, borders, cities and figures here come from open datasets (see Credits) and are simplified to make the games playable. They can be wrong or out of date. Where borders, names or the status of a territory are disputed, the choices in a game are for gameplay and don't express any political position. Don't rely on Geographys for navigation, legal, or any other decision that matters.

If you send ideas or feedback, you're free to, and we're free to use them without owing you anything. What you send is handled as described in the privacy page.

Geographys may offer optional paid features in the future. If it does, payment and subscriptions are handled by Stripe, subscriptions renew until you cancel, and you'll be able to cancel from your account page. The price and what's included will be shown before you pay. Nothing is being charged for today.

The site's own code, design and puzzles are made by its author. The underlying data and images belong to their respective owners and are used under their own licences, listed on the credits page. Flags, maps and imagery from third parties stay theirs.

You can stop using Geographys or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you've broken these terms or put the site or other players at risk. Sections that by their nature should survive ending your use of the site — including ownership, limitation of liability, indemnity and governing law — continue to apply after it ends.

Geographys is provided “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise the site will always be available, secure, error-free, or unchanged, and we may add, alter or remove games, features and data at any time without notice.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Geographys and its author won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the site. If liability can't be excluded, it's capped at the greater of $50 or what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, or any rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

You agree to cover reasonable costs and damages we face because of your misuse of the site or your breach of these terms, except to the extent caused by our own fault.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute not resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California. If you're a consumer in a place that gives you the benefit of local mandatory rules, those rules still apply.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands. These terms, together with the privacy page, are the whole agreement between you and Geographys about using the site, and replace any earlier versions. If we don't enforce a term right away, that doesn't mean we've given it up.

We may update these terms as the site grows. The date at the top says when they last changed, and continuing to use Geographys after a change means you accept the new version.
