About Continent A to Z

Pick a continent and a letter, then name its 10 biggest cities that start with it.

Typing quizzes on the world's cities: the biggest by continent, region, country or state, A to Z by first letter, the top three in every country, and the countries whose biggest city isn't the capital. Populations come from national statistics offices and the UN, and the credits page lists every source. If you've done a city quiz on Sporcle or JetPunk, it's the same format. (Geographys isn't affiliated with Sporcle or JetPunk.)

How it works

  1. 1Type the cities in any order. A name is credited the instant it's valid, with no need to press Enter, and common alternate names and spellings work too.
  2. 2Score is how many you name before the clock runs out. Name every one and the board also tracks the time you finished in.
  3. 3Stuck? Hint points you toward the biggest city still missing, but costs 15 seconds. Tap ↓ on one you don't recognize to sink it to the bottom of the list.

Tips

  • Start with the biggest cities. They're the easiest to recall and get you going.
  • Think regionally. Go through a country's regions one at a time and name the main city of each.
  • Sink the ones you don't know. Tap ↓ on a city you've never heard of so the list shows what's left.

Questions

Where do the populations come from?
National statistics offices where they publish city figures, and the UN's World Urbanization Prospects elsewhere. Countries count cities differently, some by the city proper and some by the urban area, and the credits page lists every source.
Do I need accents?
No. Names are accepted without accents, and common alternate names work too.
Which quizzes are there?
The biggest cities by continent, region, country and US state, cities A to Z by first letter, the top three in every country, and the countries whose biggest city isn't the capital. Some longer tiers are for supporters.
