Every country on Earth, one at a time. Race to name 10 cities, one country at a time. It works through the world's countries one by one, and any town of 1,000 or more in each one counts.
A daily race to name ten cities. Countries, or states on the US map, come up one at a time in the same order for everyone, and any town of 1,000 or more counts. Knowing one city in a lot of places beats knowing a lot of cities in one.
How it works
1Places come up one at a time. Name a city in the one on screen.
2Any city, town or village of 1,000+ people counts. It's accepted as soon as it's spelled right.
3Stuck? Next moves on after a short wait. Your score is your time to ten cities, so lower is better.
Tips
Have one city ready for every country. The capital is usually safe, but think of a second in case of spelling trouble.
Move on when you're stuck. The clock keeps running, and Next is quicker than staring at a country you don't know.
Small towns count. Any place of 1,000 people or more is accepted, so a town you once passed through works too.
Accents are optional. Type the name in plain letters.
Questions
Where do the towns come from?
GeoNames, a worldwide database of places, filtered to places of 1,000 people or more.
Is the order the same for everyone?
Yes, in the daily. Practice shuffles the order, and you can race to 10, 20 or 50.
Which maps are there?
The world and the US are free. Supporters also get continents and country maps, where states or provinces come up instead of countries.
When is there a new daily?
Every day at midnight where you are. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same date, and practice rounds are random.
One city everywhere
The fastest players don't know the most cities, they know at least one for every country. Countries where most people live in one city are easy once you know it, and big countries have so many towns that almost any name you remember will count.
The hard ones are the mid-sized countries where you only know the capital, and that capital has several spellings. Accents are optional and common alternate names work, so type the version you're most sure of.
